‘Lest We Forget’ is a brand new Art Council funded play about a Black British soldier who falls in love with a white woman during World War One.

To celebrate Black History Month, Barclays is hosting a series of events featuring individuals from an Afro-Caribbean backgrounds to share their inspirational stories, their tribulations, and their drivers.
The first event kicks off with the Black Business Playground on the Thursday 24th of October. This is an opportunity to break down barriers, gain honest advise and discover some secrets to success.

Honouring Dr Walter Rodney’s Legacy at the V&A 50 years on…
In 1969, Bogle-L’Ouverture Publications (BLP) – the radical London-based publishing company, which operated at a time when books by Black authors or written with a sympathetic view of Black history and culture were rare in UK mainstream bookshops – published the revolutionary and influential title, The Groundings with My Brothers, by activist scholar, Dr Walter Rodney. Guyanese-born activists, Jessica and Eric Huntley, BLP co-founders and Ealing residents since the 1950s, went on to publish seminal, academic and award winning publications including, Rodney’s titular, How Europe Undeveloped Africa (1972). The Huntleys originally named their Ealing bookshop “Bogle-L’Ouverture” , and later, after Rodney’s brutal assassination in 1980 renamed “the beacon in West London,” The Walter Rodney Bookshop” – a place of community activism, innovation and educational creativity. Today, we honour Rodney’s legacy…Newly established in memory of Jessica Huntley, who died in 2013, the first Annual Huntley Memorial Lecture, will be inaugurated at the V&A Museum on 18th October, with a focus on the legacy of Walter Rodney. Introduced by Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper, author of Our Life is a Struggle: Gender, Respectability and Black Resistance, Professor Patricia Daley of Oxford University, will deliver the first annual lecture where she will reflect on Rodney’s contributions to the political and historical intersectionality of the underdevelopment of Africa.

Black History Month Workshops for children at Sutton House – A National Trust Activity
1 hour long sessions exploring objects, source materials and clues the children are encouraged to bring out the historian within and piece together information about important Black people in history in a grand Tudor setting. Workshops can be tailored to either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.

The Britain-Nigeria Educational Trust promoting Nigerian art for educational projects in Nigeria.
Art not Aid – Nigerian Artists Supporting Education are holding a charity auction showcasing the dynamic work of contemporary Nigerian artists, including Nelson Okoh, Christopher Ankeli and Damola Adepoju, to raise funds for educational projects in Nigeria.
The auction sponsored by Mocoh Oil, Alhaji Hassan Tukur and Tarkett Desso supporting Art Not Aid Projects will take place in London on 9th October however the works of contemporary Nigerian artists can be seen year round at Chuck Gallery Manchester. Well worth a view!

Farming. Film – In cinemas nationwide from 11th October 2019. Directed and written by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje this award winning film tells the story of a Nigerian teenage boy raised from birth by white working class parents in Tilbury South East London.
Excellent screenplay, gripping, as the director’s narrative is actually based on his own life experiences. A multi-faceted story dealing with race, mental health, self-esteem and identity. Adult themes rated 18.
