The Jamaican Ambassadors Youth Choir

Once again The Jamaican Ambassadors Youth Choir shone like stars and their performance received rousing ovations at the 2019 Jamaican Independence Day Service under the direction of Joy Sigaud.

The choir members are aged between 4 and 16 years old singing “Don’t Look Back” © written by Joy Sigaud 2019 – A tribute to the Windrush Generation and their descendants.  In the background, just visible, is Matt Redman pianist and Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin.

Below: A selection of photos. Clockwise from the top: choristers and some mothers attend the Saturday morning rehearsals – the children are holding their song sheets; His Excellency Seth Ramocan High Commissioner and Joy Sigaud with the choir; the choir members receive Certificates of Achievement from His Excellency Seth Ramocan;  the Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness pops in on a surprise visit and has a chat with the children individually; choir members in the green room ready to go on stage; The Most Honourable Prime Minister Andrew Holness addresses the group at rehearsals.

The children gave a splendid performance and were treated to a “feast,” as they called it, of Jamaican patties and hot dogs on the final day.

The Jamaican Ambassadors Youth Choir is made up of a selection of children from the community. No special skills are required to join and all are welcome. It is an initiative of the Jamaican High Commission  in their efforts to engage with the children of the UK diaspora.
